Sumimtra Hemwant displays injuries to her arm…as bandits terrorise, rob Mahaica coupleBy Latoya GilesBusinessman Rajhdeo Tahjapaul Seven heavily-armed bandits shot a businessman twice and inflicted a cruel cutlass beating on his wife during a brazen early morning robbery yesterday at the couple’s Unity, Mahaica home.Rajhdeo Tahjapaul, 53, who operates a trucking / delivery service, was shot to the shoulder and thigh.The man’s wife, 49-year-old Sumintra Hemwant, who witnessed the robbery and shooting was beaten with a cutlass, and received minor injuries.According to a police press statement, two of the men were armed with handguns, while the others had cutlasses.Up to press time no one had being taken into custody.Speaking with Kaieteur News yesterday, the visibly shaken woman said she firmly believes that the entire robbery was planned.Hemwant told Kaieteur News that it was customary for her husband to leave the house around 03:00hrs daily to deliver “greens” at Bourda Market.The woman explained that her husband got up around 02:00hrs, and woke her up, asking her to make some coffee for him.She said she began making the coffee but heard the dogs barking, however she ignored it.“I de making de coffee and meh husband de praying when we both hear the dogs barking…..but we didn’t take it for anything,” the woman recounted.Hemwant said her husband was about to open the front door,Undefeated Air Max 97 For Sale, and she was a few feet behind him with the coffee in her hands,Cheap Nike Shox Shoes, when she heard a loud noise.“I hear bang bang…..and I hear he hollering so I rush back to get meh daughter,” Hemwant said.The woman stated that after her husband was shot,Air Max 97 Undefeated Black, she heard something like horses running. “After dem shoot he I hear dem run like horse up de steps.”She said once all the bandits were inside, that’s when the real terror began.They immediately started lashing her repeatedly about the body with a cutlass demanding that she hand over her valuables.Her husband who was shot twice was also beaten with a cutlass. The couple’s nine-year-old daughter bolted from the home during the attack, and ran to a neighbour’s house.The bandits quickly ransacked the four-bedroom house, searching for valuables.
