President’s College and Bishops’ High ruled when the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI) sponsored Inter-Secondary School Impromptu Speaking Competition for fourth formers continued on Thursday.Competitions were held at the GBTI Recreational Centre and in the first contest President’s College defeated Marian Academy with a score of 660 points as against the opponent’s 635. In that match up the President’s College team was allowed to select the topics: What I like most about my school; Guyana is a tropical paradise; honesty is the best policy.Marian Academy on the other hand selected the topics: cell phones do more harm than good; teenage pregnancy; all that glitters is not gold.In the second and final challenge of the day,Cheap Air Max Shoes, Bishops’ High overcame St Rose’s High School with a whopping 714 points over 701. The Bishops’ High team selected the topics: Excessive after school lessons; a sense of humour is essential; punctuality is important for school students.The topics selected by the opposing St Rose’s High were: real learning does not occur in a classroom; drinking and driving; the greatest gift we can give others.The contests were judged by Mr Sheik Sadiq,Chris Chelios Jersey, Ms Bonita Hunter and Mrs Bernadette Persaud.The competition is set to continue Tuesday with Annandale Secondary facing off with St Joseph’s High and Mae’s Secondary competing against Cummings Lodge Secondary.
