Chief Labour Officer (CLO) Yoganand Persaud facilitated the formalizing of the “Recognition Agreement and a Collective Labour Agreement” that represents a bargaining unit by management and a setting up of mechanisms in place to deal with disputes.According to President of the GLU, Carvil Duncan, the two agreements are historic, and the history is as long as GuySuCo itself, primarily because when the Demerara Sugar Terminal (DST) started, it did so under Bookers, “and hence the collective agreement that we now have, and the collective agreement is with Bookers.”Duncan explained that as society developed and the policy of the administration changed, DST was placed under GuySuCo.
