The Vasque Pow Pow II has a shaft that rises 8 inches up the calf. During our testing period, we wore this boot out hiking on cold December days and biked to class during single degree temperatures. Our Top Pick winner fared well during winter hikes and has stellar traction in dry and wet conditions.

Warmth
The Vasque Pow Pow II features 400 grams of 3M Thinsulate Insulation and a fleecy lining around its top. Although it is a shorter boot, this model provides a little extra warmth and protection from the elements thanks to its eight-inch shaft (measured from the bottom of the sole to the lowest point on the top of the shaft). This boot kept our feet very warm during our ice water bath test, performing nearly on par with the Sorel Joan of Arctic. If you're out and moving, the Pow Pow II will keep your feet comfortable even in super chilly temps. Additionally, this product is quite breathable, reducing overall foot moisture. During our tests, girls nike slide sandals, our Top Pick winner was warmer than both the Columbia Bugaboot and products like The North Face Nuptse Purna. It also has a fairly spacious toe box, which allows air to travel a little more freely and warm up between the toes.
This boot provides a shocking amount of warmth given its low bulk. Only the Sorel Joan of Arctic offers comparable warmth; however, the Joan is truly a burden to wear for long distances due to its heavy weight and bulky design.
Comfort & Coziness
Although it wasn't the coziest piece we tested, this Vasque boot still scored pretty well in this metric thanks to its supportive footbed and its fleecy upper lining. Our lead tester described this boot as "hugging her foot…not too loose, not to tight…just right!" We experienced little-to-no heel slip in this winter hiker and stayed comfortable while wearing it all day. Additionally, nearest adidas outlet, this boot laces up to provide great support all the way up above the ankles. The shaft of the Bugaboot is a bit stiffer and more supportive, so if that's a priority for you, be sure to try that product on as well. We didn't think the Pow Pow II was quite as comfortable as the Ahnu Northridge (although both products have an EVA molded footbed and TPU shank), but it still moves easily with the foot and despite its thick sole doesn't feel too clunky.
