A 28-year-old taxi driver was yesterday refused pretrial liberty when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court, charged with causing death by dangerous driving.The allegation is that on July 25, at La Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara,Ramkissoon Prempaul, drove his motor vehicle in a dangerous manner which resulted in the death of Savitri Herbert-Singh.His lawyer Lawrence Harris, in a bail application, told the magistrate that his client is married and a father of two.Harris explained that Prempaul who resides at Lot 572 Crane Housing Scheme has been a licensed driver for nine years. The lawyer further told the court that his client sports an unblemished record,Cheap Jerseys USA, prior to this incident.Harris noted that bail should be considered since his client was an epileptic.“My worship he is a very sick person….and bail should be considered because of his medical condition.”He further added that once bail is granted his client would faithfully attend court, since he poses no flight risk.However Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford opposed bail.According to the prosecutor, Prempaul was speeding when he collided with four pedestrians who were standing on the road.
