The Board of Governors of St. Stanislaus College was recognised for the second time as being the most improved secondary school in Guyana on Thursday evening. The event was commemorated with their annual dinner.The event focused on showing appreciation to the teaching staff of the school for their dedication which has led to some of the achievements of the school.As a result of this latest achievement, the Canada alumni donated in excess of $800,Cheap Jerseys Online,000 to the school. The decision was taken to divide the sum between the teaching staff and cheques were presented to them during Thursday evening’s event.Chairman of the St. Stanislaus Board of Governors, Chris Fernandes, told the gathering that the Board was established in 2005 by the Ministry of Education.According to him, the Board initially comprised 14 former students of the school, three parents and one former teacher who took up the challenge to make St. Stanislaus what they knew it was when they were at school — “the number one school in the country.”He added they considered it a work in progress which began in October 2005 when they had to first of all improve the facilities of the college. Fernandes said that the teaching staff which was down in spirit at the time.Fernandes said that the college has had a very good year. In 2006 the school recorded 100 grade ones passes at the Caribbean Examinations Council.This year it recorded 244 grade ones passes. In 2006 there were 188 grade two passes and in 2007 the number was 327.He added that the pass rate for grades one to three in 2006 was 448, and 758 in 2008, an increase of 69 percent in a three-year period.“There is no doubt why we were given the award for the school with the most improved performance last year.”Fernandes said that the achievement has not been easy. “When we accepted the task we were promised a subvention.
