Guyana’s newest centenarian says that she is ready to meet her Maker.Veronica Pompey, a resident of Friendship/Buxton, East Coast Demerara, celebrated the milestone yesterday and was the guest of honour at a special service at the Friendship Methodist Church.Still able to read, Miss Pompey, who is partially deaf, was overwhelmed by the occasion, which saw scores of relatives and villagers as well as Opposition Leader Robert Corbin packing the church to pay her tributes.Born on July 9, 1908, Pompey attended school in the village.She lost her father at the age of 17 and her mother at 31. By that time she had two of her four children.
