While the United States of America is scaling down on the number of Post Offices there, the Guyana Post Office Corporation continues to increase the number of its facilities despite the presence of fierce competition.This was disclosed by Postmaster General Henry Dundas at the official opening of the new $6.7M facility at Melanie Damishana,China NFL Jerseys, East Coast Demerara,Jerseys NBA China, yesterday.The newly commissioned Melanie Damishana Post Office The new edifice, which is located on a plot of land donated by the Vigalstra Housing Coop Society, replaces the old facility,China Adidas Hockey Jerseys, formerly housed in the now dismantled Melanie Damishana Shopping Complex, which was closed officially in 2002.It is expected to bring great relief to residents of the Melanie Damishana and nearby communities,Cheap Jerseys, especially pensioners, since they will no longer have to travel to Enmore and other far flung areas where postal facilities exist.It will also cut the distance postal workers have to traverse to deliver mail to residents of the community.According to Chairman of the Guyana Post Office Corporation, Bishop Juan Edghill,Wholesale Jerseys, when he became Chairman, he made the unilateral decision to close the old facility, so it was with pleasure that he was in some way instrumental in seeing the new post office come to fruition.He said that when the land was first offered for the new facility, there were some initial hiccups but the Corporation and the Housing Coop were able to make the necessary compromises to see the venture through.Of course it came at a great cost to the GPOC ,which according to Edghill, is not the recipient of government subvention to exist.He disclosed that funds for the construction of the new post office were in the GPOC’s budget since 2003 but it was only completed after frequent negotiations with the land donor.“We are operating on a shoestring budget and people still pay $20 for the delivery of a mail in Guyana -way below the actual cost. The Guyana Post Office Corporation is committed to providing a universal service. We go where our competition don’t go,” Edghill declared.This was echoed by the Post Master General who said that the corporation has a mandate to be located in strategic areas, where the competition hardly ever ventures.The Post Master General assured that the corporation will ensure that its staff is properly trained, since the public does not only require new postal buildings but quality service also.Chairman of the Region Four Democratic Council Clement Corlette,Cheap NFL Jerseys, in brief remarks, recalled that when the Melanie Damishana community was established it was designed to be a model community with almost all the essential services.“What we are celebrating here is the return of the (postal) service,” he said.The new post office has been operating for just under a month and residents have already showering praises.
