All threats of industrial action have been placed on the backburner, at least for the time being,Kevin Love Jersey, following a cordial negotiation meeting on Tuesday between the University of Guyana (UG) workers’ Unions and the Administration. The Unions were advocating for a 60 per cent across the board increase for workers.“We are trying as much as we possibly can, not to nit-pick literally about everything…students are getting short-changed, we are getting short-changed but the Administration of the University has not been short-changed in anyway…none of them have lost anything…” said Haynes as he noted that “going on strike is not an easy thing.”Professor Opadeyi had told this publication that while the Unions were advocating for a greater increase, the University was not in a position to offer more than 10 per cent. In fact he went on to explain that such a process “is not an easy matter” adding that “you have to look at your income and expenditure.
