The National Trust of Guyana in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Youth Sport and Culture, on Monday launched the booklet, “Linden Heritage Trail,” at the Egbert Benjamin Centre in Linden.Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland unveils the cover of the Linden Heritage Trail with the help of National Trust CEO Nirvana PersaudThe event marked the observance of the International Day for Monuments and Sites (World Heritage Day).The 48-page publication showcases historic landmarks. It gives a brief history on the Town of Linden.The book launch was applauded by Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland,Chicago Bulls Jerseys, Regional Chairman Renis Morian and former IMC Chairman Orrin Gordon.After the official launch, several copies were presented to these officials and other invitees, including members of the media.Chief Executive Officer of the National Trust, Nirvana Persaud,Wholesale Jerseys, said that the task of compiling the book was not an easy one. Similar publications were previously made in Georgetown and New Amsterdam, according to Persaud.She thanked several persons, including Gordon, Horace James, and Mr. Parris for their help in gathering the relevant information to make the book a reality.Mayor Holland was tasked with the unveiling of the cover which depicted in colour, the Bauxite Plant, old Alumina Plant, bauxite ore cars and the Christianburg waterwheel.According to Persaud the National Trust [of Guyana] was established following the passage of the National Trust Act, [Laws of Guyana. 20:30 No. 7 of 1972 [revised 2012].This act “makes provision for the preservation of monuments, sites,Wholesale Jerseys 2017, places and objects of historic interest or national importance”.Persaud pointed out, “Our vision is that our heritage must be valued and preserved; our history recorded and our people inspired and empowered. I am confident that this new publication fulfilled this, which also is in keeping with our jubilee theme and celebrations.She added that Monday’s “special designation” can be dated back to 34 years ago. It was in 1982, that the idea of establishing a special day to celebrate the diversity of heritage throughout the world was suggested by the International Council on Monuments and Sites, (ICOMOS) in Tunisia, on April 18.This was then approved by the executive committee who provided practical suggestions to the national committees on how to celebrate the day, Persaud said.She noted that subsequently, the concept was adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 22nd session in November 1982, through the passage of a resolution, declaring April 18, each year as International Day for Monuments and Sites (World Heritage Day).Persaud added, “This special day offers an opportunity to raise the awareness of the general public concerning the diversity of the world’s heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as to draw attention to its vulnerability.”Each year since its establishment,Cheap NHL Jerseys, ICOMOS a special expert heritage body, selects a global theme and suggests that countries through their various heritage agencies and local ICOMOS committees, devise their own national themes for observing the day throughout the world – highlighting the importance and promotion of aspects of the world’s cultural heritage.“The aim is to encourage local communities and individuals to consider the importance of cultural heritage to their lives, identities and communities, and to move beyond the world heritage sites, with specific focus on national and local heritage sites which are equally significant.“The trust, being guided by the principles of establishing this special day, has over the years, observed the day in many ways, including special thematic exhibitions, tours, heritage walks, interactive activities, book launches,Borussia Dortmund Jersey, memorabilia’s, lectures,Asics Fuzex Rush Femme, and media releases among others.
