PUC intervenes in dispute between City Hall, GPL“It is inaccurate and does not reflect what transpired at the meeting,” said Acting Town Clerk Mrs Yonette Pluck-Cort of a statement issued by the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) on decisions reached between the municipality and the power company during a meeting held on November 21 last. The Extraordinary meeting in session yesterdayGPL,Wholesale Authentic NFL Jerseys, in a letter published as a whole page advertisement in the daily newspapers, yesterday, sought to highlight that the municipality has sought to renege on agreements reached when officials of the power company met with municipal officials Pluck-Cort and Acting City Treasurer, Monica Irving. It was stated in the advertisement that the municipal officials had accepted an electricity debt of more than $624M; that an agreement was made for the two parties to exchange cheques to the tune of 113M on or before November 26,wholesale soccer jerseys, 2009; and that a joint audit be conducted to establish the true amount either party owes. However, the fact that the power company in the advertisement noted that it was writing to confirm what was discussed and agreed between the parties was of much concern to officials of the municipality. The concerns were enough to warrant an extraordinary meeting yesterday.Deputy Mayor Robert Williams related that his concerns were hinged on his belief that GPL should have been attempting to verify what was discussed at the meeting rather than seek to confirm agreements already made.In disclaiming some aspects of the letter,Chris Chelios Jersey, Pluck-Cort said that the power company’s figures varies from that of the municipality as it relates to the amount it owes for the period January 2005 to December 2009. She said, too,Jerseys From China, that based on her knowledge the two parties had agreed that the exchange of cheques be somewhere in the vicinity of $233M and not $113M as relayed by the power company.Pluck-Cort further noted that GPL was aware that the municipality was not prepared to proceed with an exchange of cheques. According to her following a decision made at the level of council a letter was sent to GPL informing of the municipality’s inability to continue the process. However, Pluck-Cort was unable to produce that letter yesterday.Councillor Ranwell Jordan sought to highlight yesterday that from all indication the municipality has a major documentation problem. According to him,Jerseys NFL Cheap, “We as a council cannot continue to behave this way. The Council must be properly represented especially on matters that we agree on. From today we must start making documentations,Jerseys Cheap NFL,” he warned.GPL in its letter has threatened the municipality to disconnect the Kitty and La Penitence Markets by today if effort is not made to address its electricity debt. But according to City Mayor Hamilton Green the municipality will have to be proactive. He suggested three courses of action, the first being that the municipality seek the intervention of the Public Utilities Commission. Securing an injunction against the power company and engaging talks with Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Kellawan Lall, were also cited by Green. It was however the view of Deputy Mayor Williams that the first move to be engaged by the municipality should be to secure an injunction. He however noted that Pluck-Cort would have to be certain of the discussions and agreements reached at the meeting with GPL since such facts may be required in securing the injunction. However, by early yesterday afternoon, Chairman of the PUC, Justice Prem Persaud, in a letter to the media informed of his willingness to meet with officials from the municipality and the power company to treat with the matter. He expressed optimism that discussions with the parties will serve to pave the way for an amicable settlement.“It is my expectation that the parties will be represented by senior and responsible officers who will be in a position to commit and ensure that any decision arrived at will be expeditiously and effectively carried out.”The meeting with the two entities has been scheduled for next Monday in the boardroom of the PUC.
