Enmore sugar factory death …An independent probe at the Enmore sugar factory that left a worker dead in May has found that the pressure in a steam pipe was almost 10 times higher than it should have been.The pipe subsequently exploded, severely injuring Jainarine “Derrick” Singh.Jainarine SinghAn independent inquiry by representatives of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) and the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) was launched into the incident.An official close to the Commission of Inquiry has disclosed that there was negligence involved with a steam pipe that should have had a pressure of around 23 pounds per square inch (psi) was instead reading over 200 psi, almost 10 times the recommended pressure.Investigations did not find any fault on Singh’s part.
