As part of its continued effort to raise awareness about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Lifeline Counselling – through the annual Phillip Vanderhyden Walk – is poised to reach a wide cross-section of city residents come Sunday. The walk is aimed at increasing awareness about HIV and AIDS and is geared at showing support for persons infected and affected by the disease.And support has been forthcoming from a number of organisations to aid this venture according to Head of the Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBCHA), Ms Tracey Lewis. At a simple ceremony, at GBCHA’s Orange Walk, Bourda, office yesterday, Lewis handed over donations of both cash and kind to Falicia Adams, Executive Director of Lifeline Counselling. The donations came compliments of members of GBCHA,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, and amounted to a monetary value of almost $400,000. Among the contributors are A. H. and L. Kissoon, the Bank of Nova Scotia, Continental Group of Companies, Demerara Distillers Limited, Edward B. Although the NGO’s operation is centred in Georgetown it attracts clients from across the country, Adams noted. The objective of the entity is to improve the mental health of anyone who seeks the services of Lifeline; provide counselling to persons living with or affected by HIV and AIDS and to work towards the national goal of reducing the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections through education outreach.Lifeline is a volunteer-driven, charitable and community-based, registered non-profit governmental organisation.
